MORE ABOUT THIS PRODUCT

FAQs

What is the floss actually made from?

Our floss filament is polyester with added bamboo charcoal, lightly coated in candelilla plant wax and natural mint essential oil. The jar is glass with a metal cutter, and the outer box is paper/cardboard.

Why did you choose a polyester-based floss if you care about sustainability?

We tested fully “natural” filaments, but they either snapped easily, shredded in tight spaces, or didn’t clean well. Polyester gives strength and fray resistance, while bamboo charcoal adds texture and colour. We balance this with refillable packaging, plant-based wax, and no PTFE/PFAS coatings.

What does charcoal actually do?

The micro‑porous surface adsorbs plaque causing particles and tannin stains while you floss, think of it as a tiny dirt magnet.

Does the bamboo charcoal whiten teeth?

Charcoal can help lift plaque and some surface stains, but it’s not a substitute for professional whitening. Think of it as an extra deep clean between teeth, not a dramatic whitening treatment.

Will the black colour stain my teeth?

Nope. Charcoal particles are bound into the fiber and rinse away clean.

Is this floss biodegradable or compostable?

The filament itself is not compostable because it contains polyester, so used floss should go in general waste.
What is lower waste is the refillable glass jar and paper box, which avoid single use plastic dispensers.

Is it vegan and cruelty-free?

Yes. No silk, no beeswax, no animal-derived ingredients, and no animal testing. The coating uses candelilla plant wax, not beeswax.

Is this floss suitable for sensitive gums?

Most people with normal or mildly sensitive gums find it gentle and comfortable. The floss is round and waxed, so it glides rather than cuts. If your gums are very sensitive or you have active gum disease, it’s best to check with your dentist first.

Can kids use this floss?

Yes, older children and teens can use it with supervision, as long as they can handle the floss safely and gently. For younger kids, ask your dentist what they recommend.

How long does one jar last?

Each spool contains 30 metres of floss. Used once a day at about 30–40 cm per use, that’s roughly 2–3 months per refill, depending on how generous you are.

How do I refill the jar?

When you reach the end of a spool, simply:

  1. Unscrew the metal lid,
  2. Remove the empty core,
  3. Drop in a new refill spool,
  4. Thread the floss through the hole and under the cutter, then screw the lid back on.

Where is it made?

Designed in New Zealand; responsibly produced in an audited ISO‑9001 facility in China. Every batch is tested for residual solvents and PFAS.
