FAQ

Collapsible content

Are the bamboo heads home compostable?

Yes—the bamboo base only. Before composting, pull out the bristles and pop out the tiny inner plastic clip. Compost the bamboo; bin the bristles and clip (they’re too small to recycle).

What are the bristles made from? Are they biodegradable?

Castor oil from the castor bean plant is processed into monomers (like sebacic acid) which are used to form nylon polymers. Nylon-11 (also called polyamide 11) is one such polymer that is 100% bio-based from castor oil. Chemically, these bristles look and perform much like regular nylon, so they’re not compostable. Bio-based bristles are considered greener because they don’t use virgin petroleum and can have a lower carbon footprint

What does the green strip do?

It’s a wear indicator. The green bristles gradually fade over ~3 months, reminding you to replace the head. Timing varies with brushing habits and toothpaste type.

How often should I replace a head?

Every 3 months (or sooner if the green strip fades or bristles splay). That’s the dentist-recommended cadence for hygiene and performance.

Will these heads fit my handle?

They’re designed for Crescent Nest the latest handles only.

Do you make different head types (e.g., floss action, whitening)?

We focus on one do everything head with
medium soft, tapered filaments for effective plaque removal and gum comfort. Use your handle’s modes (e.g., Clean/White/Polish) to tailor the feel.

Any tips to prevent the bamboo base from swelling or moulding?

Rinse, shake off excess water, and store upright so it dries between brushes. Avoid soaking or closed, steamy containers. In very humid homes, replacing on the 3-month cycle helps.

Is this safe for sensitive gums or braces?

Yes—start on a sensitive mode and let the soft filaments do the work. For braces or implants, consult your dental professional for personalised advice.

Where are they made?

Designed in Aotearoa New Zealand and made in FDA-registered, BSCI-audited facilities in China.
